- In a large skillet over medium-low heat, add sliced onions and a drizzle of olive oil. Stir occasionally for about 20–30 minutes until golden brown.
- While the onions are caramelizing, heat another pan over medium heat and add ground beef. Cook until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine caramelized onions, browned beef, uncooked rice, and broth. Stir until mixed well.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish. Sprinkle cheese on top and bake for 45 minutes.
- Allow the casserole to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
