Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by coating the chicken thighs in flour and seasoning them generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat, and brown the chicken thighs for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they're golden.
  3. Once the chicken is browned, place it at the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Next, add the uncooked rice, followed by the chicken broth and additional seasonings such as garlic powder and onion powder. Do not stir these ingredients.
  5. Cover the crockpot and set it to low for 3-4 hours or high for approximately 1.5-2 hours.
  6. In the last 30 minutes of cooking, gently stir in the fresh broccoli florets.
  7. About 20 minutes before serving, stir in the grated sharp cheddar cheese.
  8. Halfway through the cooking time, use a large spoon to gently stir the ingredients together.
  9. As the cooking time nears completion, check the consistency of the sauce.
