Ingredients

For the Bread
  • 1/3 cup Light Brown Sugar Adds a deep sweetness that enhances the bread's flavor; be careful not to pack it tightly.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Infuses the bread with warm, spicy notes; feel free to adjust according to your taste preference.
  • 2/3 cup White Sugar Provides the sweetness and contributes to the bread’s tender texture.
  • 1/2 cup Salted Butter Helps create a rich, moist loaf; you can use unsalted butter if you prefer a less salty bread.
  • 2 Eggs Essential for providing structure and moisture in the bread.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract Elevates the flavor; using pure vanilla extract will give the best results.
  • 1 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour Forms the base of the loaf; substitute with a gluten-free blend for a gluten-free option.
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons Baking Powder Acts as a leavening agent, giving the bread a delightful rise.
  • 1/2 cup Milk Adds moisture to the batter; almond or oat milk can be substituted for a dairy-free version.
  • 2 Apples Peeled and chopped; Granny Smith or Honeycrisp varieties are ideal, bringing both sweetness and tartness.
For the Glaze
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar Sweetens and thickens the glaze for a beautiful finish.
  • 1 tablespoon Milk Gives the glaze a smooth consistency, enhancing its drizzled appeal.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Amish Apple Fritter Bread
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the light brown sugar and cinnamon thoroughly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the white sugar and softened butter using an electric mixer on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then incorporate the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with flour.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, then layer half of the chopped apples and sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the apples.
  8. Add the remaining batter, top with remaining apples and cinnamon-sugar mixture, and gently swirl with a butter knife.
  9. Bake for 50 to 60 minutes until golden brown; a toothpick should come out clean.
  10. While the bread cools, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth to make the glaze.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over the bread once cooled slightly and allow it to set before slicing.
