Step-by-Step Instructions
- Set up a cookie sheet lined with paper towels. Fill a deep frying pan with canola oil to about 1 inch deep and heat until it reaches between 365°F and 375°F.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together one egg and a splash of water. Gradually sift in all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder, mixing until smooth.
- Layer thin slices of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese between two slices of egg bread. Cut the assembled sandwich in half diagonally.
- Dip one sandwich half into the prepared batter, coating it completely. Fry in the hot oil for about 3 minutes until golden brown.
- Carefully flip the sandwich half with tongs and cook for another 2-3 minutes until both sides are golden. Remove and place on the cookie sheet.
- Dust the fried sandwiches with confectioners sugar and serve hot with blackberry preserves.
