Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and prepare your cupcake liners in a pan.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to package instructions and fill cupcake liners about two-thirds full.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes and check doneness with a toothpick.
  4. Cool the cupcakes in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Cream softened butter until fluffy, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  6. Divide the frosting into three bowls; color each with red, blue, or leave white.
