Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast, and 2 teaspoons of salt. Gradually pour in 1 and ½ cups of warm water, mixing until a sticky dough forms.
- Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the sticky dough out onto it. Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes, adding flour as needed to prevent sticking.
- Once kneaded, shape the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp towel and let it rise for about 1 hour.
- After the first rise, gently punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or smaller pieces. Let it rest for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place a shallow pan on the bottom rack of the oven to hold water for steam.
- Make slashes on the dough surface and bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Once baked, remove the bread and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 45 minutes before slicing.
