Step‑by‑Step Instructions
- Start by placing dried hominy in a large bowl, ensuring it’s fully submerged in water. Allow the hominy to soak for 6 to 10 hours.
- Once soaked, drain the hominy and spread it out on a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Pat the kernels dry gently to remove excess moisture.
- While the hominy is drying, preheat your oven to 375°F if using convection, or 400°F for a regular oven.
- In a small jar, combine fine ground salt, garlic powder, paprika, and onion powder. Shake the jar vigorously to mix the spices together evenly.
- Drizzle the dried hominy with peanut oil in a large mixing bowl, stirring gently to ensure an even coat. Gradually add the seasoning mix while continuing to stir.
- Spread the seasoned hominy in an even layer on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then stir and bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes.
- Once baked, remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the corn nuts to cool for at least 15 minutes.
