  • 1 cup breadcrumbs can substitute with panko
  • 1 egg acts as a binder
  • ½ cup milk any fat percentage can work
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce for glaze
For the Mac and Cheese
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni or other short pasta
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups milk
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese medium or sharp recommended
  • 1 teaspoon paprika optional

Method
 

Main Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather your baking dish and other ingredients.
  2. Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic powder, and barbecue sauce in a large mixing bowl. Mix well.
  3. Transfer the meatloaf mixture into a greased baking dish, shaping it into a loaf about 2 inches thick. Bake for 30 minutes.
  4. Cook elbow macaroni until al dente and set aside. In a saucepan, melt butter, whisk in flour, then gradually add milk, whisking until thickened.
  5. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Optionally add paprika.
  6. Spread the mac and cheese evenly over the meatloaf. Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until heated through and golden.
  7. Let the casserole cool for about 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
