Ingredients

For the Caramel Sauce
  • 1/4 cup Butter adds richness and helps create the smooth caramel sauce
  • 2/3 cup Dark Brown Sugar packed for a deep, caramelized flavor; light brown sugar can be a valid substitute
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon adds a warm spice note to enhance the overall flavor
  • 1/2 cup Dark Rum introduces depth and sweetness; feel free to use a rum alternative if preferred
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract infuses the sauce with a classic aromatic sweetness
For the Bananas
  • 2 Medium Ripe Bananas use for best sweetness and softness
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Pecans optional for added crunch; walnuts work well too, or omit for nut allergies
For Serving
  • 4 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream the perfect creamy base to serve the warm bananas and sauce

Equipment

  • large skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Bananas Foster
  1. Begin by peeling two medium, ripe bananas and slicing them into thick, diagonal pieces, about half an inch thick.
  2. In a large skillet, melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter over medium heat until it begins to sizzle.
  3. Once melted, add 2/3 cup of packed dark brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, stirring continuously for about 2–3 minutes until the mixture is smooth and caramelized.
  4. Carefully add the sliced bananas to the skillet, gently stirring them in the caramel sauce.
  5. Cook for about 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bananas are just softened and glazed with the rich caramel.
  6. Pour in 1/2 cup of dark rum, swirling the skillet to mix everything well.
  7. If you're feeling adventurous, tilt the skillet to allow the rum to catch the flame and flambé for about 30 seconds.
  8. Once the flames subside, remove the skillet from heat and stir in 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract and, if desired, 1/4 cup of chopped pecans.
  9. Scoop generous portions of vanilla ice cream into serving bowls and spoon the warm banana and caramel mixture over the ice cream.
  10. For an extra touch, garnish with more chopped pecans or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
