  • 1 cup all-purpose flour can use whole wheat flour for a healthier option
  • 1/2 cup water adjust as needed for a smooth consistency
For the Filling
  • 200 grams prawns peeled and deveined, use fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup fresh chives can substitute with green onions or scallions
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce low-sodium soy sauce makes this a healthier option
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil can be omitted for a lighter taste
  • to taste salt and pepper add garlic powder for extra depth if desired

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup of water. Knead until smooth and pliable, about 5 minutes.
  2. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Filling Preparation
  1. Finely chop the prawns and mix in a bowl with fresh chives, soy sauce, sesame oil, and salt and pepper to taste.
Dumpling Formation
  1. Divide the rested dough into walnut-sized balls, roll each into thin circles about 3-4 inches in diameter.
  2. Place about a teaspoon of filling in the center of each dough circle, fold to create a half-moon shape, and pinch edges to seal.
Cooking
  1. Steam the dumplings in a lined steamer basket on high for 10-12 minutes until tender and translucent.
  2. Alternatively, pan-fry in a skillet for 3-4 minutes until golden, then add water and cover to steam for 5 minutes.
Serving
  1. Carefully remove the cooked dumplings and serve hot with a soy-based dipping sauce.
