Prep Ingredients
- Drain and rinse canned beans. Dice onion and green pepper, mince garlic and jalapeño, and chop bacon if using.
Cook Bacon
- In a pot over medium heat, sauté bacon for 5-7 minutes until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon.
Sauté Vegetables
- In the pot with bacon fat, cook diced onion and green pepper for 5-8 minutes until soft.
Add Aromatics
- Stir in minced garlic and jalapeño, cooking for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
Develop Sauce
- Add tomato paste, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, mustard, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
Season
- Add smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Adjust according to taste.
Mix Beans
- Add rinsed beans and broth, stir gently, and bring to a simmer.
Simmer
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cook uncovered for 25-35 minutes until sauce thickens.
Optional Baking
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Transfer beans to an oven-safe dish and bake for 20-30 minutes until bubbly.

- Let beans rest for a few minutes before serving. Adjust seasoning and enjoy!
