For the Garlic Bread
  • 1 loaf Italian Bread About 24 inches long; select a firm variety.
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened Creates a creamy garlic spread; can be replaced with margarine.
  • 8 cloves Garlic, minced for butter Intensifies the garlic flavor; always go for fresh!
  • Garlic Powder Optional; boosts the garlic flavor.
  • Black Pepper For seasoning; freshly ground black pepper elevates the flavors.

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add 2 tablespoons of salt once boiling.
  2. Add spaghetti to boiling water and cook for 8-10 minutes until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti.
  3. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté minced garlic (and red pepper flakes, if using) for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Toss drained spaghetti into garlic oil and mix in reserved pasta water until well-coated.
  5. Stir in chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, season with salt and black pepper.
  6. Mix softened butter with minced garlic and remaining parsley for garlic butter.
  7. Slice Italian bread lengthwise and spread garlic butter mixture generously.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake garlic bread for 10-12 minutes until golden.
  9. Broil garlic bread for an additional 1-2 minutes for extra crispiness.
  10. Serve spaghetti alongside garlic bread, garnished with extra cheese and parsley.
